Definitions of career readiness
There are a plethora of career readiness definitions out there—Idaho as a state has not adopted one, although many states have. Let's continue to share definitions and so that we can evolve our own shared understanding/definition for the PTECH network.
Here's a definition that Deb found:
Career readiness involves three major skill areas: core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in routine daily activities; employability skills that are essential in any career area; and technical, job-specific skills related to a specific career pathway.
The IDEO team has been researching professional technical programs in other states, specifically Washington, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Washington State has students build portfolios that exhibit skills in:
- academic development
- career development
- personal/social development
As you come across other definitions feel free to post them in the comments or add them to the blog.
