How PTECH Helped Shape My Future
My name is Nathaniel and I am a graduating senior at Kuna High School. I was one of the only two students who signed up for PTECH’s Aerospace pathway when it was first offered at Kuna High. That was back at the end of my sophomore year, and between then and where I am today, many great things have happened because of PTECH. I have grown along with PTECH and we’ve become even better than when the program first started. I know that I was one of the guinea pigs when it all started, and I’m glad I was because it influenced me to do what I never thought I would be doing. PTECH was there to not only guide me in a path of what classes to take, they also helped push me to take classes I had never thought about.
When I first started high school and heard about college credit classes, I told myself that I wasn’t going to take any of those and I was just going to go through high school by doing just what I needed and nothing else. That quickly changed when I joined PTECH. I went from just having one college credit class under my belt to now having taken 11 in total. That has been one of the biggest challenges I have faced with PTECH but also one of my biggest accomplishments.
Along with being challenged academically, I have also had many fun times while in PTECH. Aero Camp was a highlight for me during the summer of 2015. Spending two weeks working hands-on with composites, and being around great people and beautiful scenery, is the best and most fun part of PTECH that I have had. I really enjoy working with my hands, so being able to not only work with my hands but also use materials I have never used before made for an unforgettable experience.
My plans after high school were very fuzzy in the beginning. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I really wanted to do post high school but I figured that I would figure it out eventually, but that probably wouldn’t have happened and I would be doing something I wouldn’t enjoy to my fullest and I would have had some regrets. But with joining PTECH, I was introduced into many other career fields I had never thought of and I quickly realized all of the opportunities that were available through PTECH.
In the fall, I am going to be going up north to North Idaho College to finish up my AAS that PTECH originally started us on the pathway toward. After that, I want to stay there and work toward an AS in Business for entrepreneurship. Once I am done there, my plan is to go to a four-year school such as Cal Poly or U of I to obtain my Bachelors and Masters in engineering. I couldn’t do any of this without the help of all the wonderful people who make PTECH what it is and I am truly grateful for being able to be a part of a life changing program. Thank you to everyone.
